From Klingenstock to Fronalpstock – October 5th

Route: Stoos – Klingenstock – Fronalpstock

6h, 12km,  950 meters up and down. Level: Hard.

Organised by: Vicky (speaks DE, ENG)

About the hike

We start in Schwyz and take the steepest funicular in Switzerland to the village of Stoos. From there, we walk on wide hiking trails to the turn-off towards Klingenstock. From this point, the trail climbs steeply over pastures – there is no dedicated footpath here. Once at the top, we are greeted by a wonderful mountain panorama with the Chaiserstock, Rossstock and Hagelstock. For the next 3 km, the trail descends gently and comfortably towards Fronalpstock. You can take the famous social media pictures here.

Right before the Fronalpstock, we take a narrow path with lots of steps and descend almost 180hm before tackling the final ascent to the summit.

Once at the top, we can have a drink in the restaurant and then either take the chairlift down to the village or descend the almost 1000hm on foot.

Please note

The hike is a beautiful panoramic hike with mostly wide and easy paths, but there is also a narrow passage that descends more steeply. As the hike is very popular with tourists, it is very busy and you have to expect two-way traffic – even on the tight passages towards Fronalpstock.

As we cover almost 1000 hm on foot, you must be in good physical condition and have covered long hiking routes several times during the year.

Please note: If you don’t necessarily want to ascend the Fronalpstock, you can use the “emergency exit” after the descent from the Klingenstock and thus save almost 150hm.

How to sign up

To register, please complete the form below. Please note that your registration is binding. Places are limited to a maximum of 12 – “first come first serve” 😉 After your registration you will receive a confirmation and a message from the organizer as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: If you are unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know by 1st of October at the latest so that we can give others on the waiting list the opportunity to come along. Participants who cancel at short notice will be excluded from future events. We strive to offer our events free of charge and invest a lot of our free time in these events (we all work on a voluntary basis), but have unfortunately experienced many no-shows/no-answers or super last-minute cancellations in recent years, which is demotivating for the organisers. That’s why we had to establish this rule.

Liability disclaimer / Please note

The hike is free of charge, but our organisers are always happy to receive a small tip via TWINT for their voluntary work (it takes about three days to organise and run a hike). The number will be announced after registration and you will be invited to a Whatsapp group. Food and drink are not included in our hikes and you must bring your own. Participation is at your own risk and responsibility, as we are only a volunteer community of friends and not an official tour operator. You will therefore be asked to confirm a disclaimer below. You can also find more information in our FAQ.
