Just like in previous years, we’re organizing another weekend at a mountain hut with an overnight stay in 2026! Our fifth gathering is just around the corner – this is your chance to meet other women who love the outdoors and make new friends! We’ll meet on September 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Realp train station and hike together to the Rotondo-Hütte (SAC), where we’ll be spending the night. Whether we’re hiking or just hanging out together in the evening, there will be plenty of opportunities to get to know other women who love the outdoors!
Travel and Hike on Saturday
We’ll reserve seats on the train for the main routes. You’ll find all the information about public transportation connections below. For anyone arriving by other means: we’ll meet at the Realp train station by 9:30 a.m. at the latest!
From the train station, we’ll start by hiking along a small road beside the Furkareuss River and then turn into the Witenwasseren Valley. There, we’ll continue past many small streams toward Sunnsbiel until we finally arrive at the Rotondo Hut at 2,573 meters, overlooking several small lakes. The hike takes about 4.5 to 5 hours total, including breaks; the route is 9.8 km long, and we’ll climb 1,029 meters in elevation and descend exactly one meter. Due to the altitude and the steep climb, this hike is not suitable for beginners! We’ll also be sleeping at an altitude of over 2,500 meters, where the air is already a bit thinner. It’s important to drink plenty of fluids!
After a well-deserved break, there will be a short, optional evening activity that you can join. Julia will share her knowledge on topics such as first aid in the mountains, what to do during a thunderstorm, drinking water in the mountains, route planning with Swisstopo, and more. She’ll tailor the content to the participants’ questions.
Sunday Activities
For Sunday, the area offers a variety of hiking options to choose from. We usually hike down together; we’ll discuss on Saturday evening who wants to do what. Here are the options:
- This fast hiking route takes you directly to the Furka Pass via Chrummegg. Distance: 10.6 km, 559 m elevation gain, 699 m elevation loss, duration approx. 4 hours 10 minutes without breaks. Difficulty: moderate. Important: Buses from the Furka Pass do not run frequently (9:07 a.m. / 10:16 a.m. / 12:57 p.m. / 4:11 p.m. / 5:40 p.m.) Link to the route in Outdooractive.
- Alternatively, you can also hike to the Gotthard Pass: 14.2 km, 555 hm uphill, 1,016 hm downhill, duration approx. 5 hours 15 minutes. Difficulty: challenging. There’s also the option to extend this hike via Hüenderstock; we’ll discuss that once we’re there. Link to the route in Outdooractive.
- If you enjoy downhill riding, you can also choose the route to Airolo: Over 14.5 km, you’ll climb 561 hm and descend 1,165 hm (duration: approx. 5 hours and 15 minutes, excluding breaks). Link to the route in Outdooractive.

Here’s a summary of all the information about accommodations, dates, and costs, as well as registration and general conditions. First things first: We don’t make any money from this event, since we’re organizing it entirely on a volunteer basis. The costs listed are the actual lodging and meal costs charged by the lodge. If you enjoyed the weekend, we’d really appreciate a tip via TWINT so we can continue to cover Swissmountaingirls’ fixed costs (website, hosting, etc.) in the future. We’ll send you the number after the event 🙂
