As in previous years, we are organizing another cabin weekend with overnight stay in 2025! Our fourth meeting is just around the corner – this is your chance to meet other women who love the outdoors and make new friends! We will meet on August 16 Meeting at 11 a.m. at the red lighthouse at the Oberalp Pass and hike together to the Vermigel Hut (SAC), where we will spend the night. Whether hiking or enjoying a cozy get-together in the evening, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet other women who love the outdoors!
Arrival and hike on Saturday
We will reserve seats on the train for the main routes. All information about public transport connections can be found below. For those arriving by other means: we will meet at 11 a.m. at the latest at the Oberalppass stop by the red lighthouse (please note for those arriving by car – we will be getting off somewhere else!).
From the Oberalp Pass, we first hike to the beautiful Lai da Tuma, which is considered the source of the Rhine. Then we hike down towards Maighels Hut, with a beautiful view of Piz Cavradi. Once we reach the valley floor, we hike through the beautiful Val Maighels, always along the water, before tackling the final ascent to the Maighels Pass. Soon after, we reach our final destination, the Vermighel Hut at 2,040 m. The tour takes about 5 hours in total, including breaks. The route is 13.2 km long, with an elevation gain of 733 m on the ascent and 754 m on the descent.
After a well-deserved break, there will be a small optional evening program that you can participate in. Julia will share her knowledge on topics such as first aid in the mountains, what to do in a thunderstorm, drinking water in the mountains, route planning with Swisstopo, etc. She will tailor the content to the questions of the participants.
Activities on Sunday
For Sunday, the area offers various hiking options to choose from. We can descend together or individually; we will discuss on Saturday evening who wants to do what. These are the options:
- This fast hiking route takes you through the Unteralp Valley directly to Andermatt. Distance: 8 km, 117 m ascent, 624 m descent, duration approx. 2 hours Link to the route in Swisstopo (only works on mobile)
- Alternatively, you can hike to the Gotthard Pass: 12.4 km, 808 m uphill, 763 m downhill, duration approx. 4 hours 20 minutes Link to the route (only works on mobile)
- Those who prefer a more challenging hike can choose the route to Lago Ritom. However, this route is quite demanding: it covers almost 18.2 km with 1,051 m of ascent and 1,247 m of descent (duration approx. 6 hours 30 minutes) Link to the route (only works on mobile)
Here you will find a summary of all the information about accommodation, dates, and costs, as well as registration and general conditions. First of all, we would like to point out that we do not earn any money from the event, as we organize it entirely on a voluntary basis. The costs listed are the actual accommodation and meal costs for the hut. If you enjoyed the weekend, we would be very grateful for a tip via TWINT so that we can continue to cover the fixed costs of Swissmountaingirls (website/hosting, etc.) in the future. We will send you the number after the event 🙂
