About the hike

You have to experience it live once in your life – the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps: the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge on the Europaweg in Randa in the Valais.

The hike starts at the train station in Randa, where Nadine will meet you. Through beautiful larch forests, we reach the “Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge” after about 2h, which was named after the main sponsor, Charles Kuonen, and is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps at 494m. The crossing takes just under 10 minutes and at the highest point we are suspended 85m above the Grabengufer. At dizzy heights, we are surrounded by the beauty of the mountain landscape. With the view of the Weisshorn and the wonderful mountain world of the Mattertal, time seems to stand still for the moment. The slight thrill provides additional adrenaline. Thanks to the transparent construction, you always have a “view into the depths”.

After the crossing, we zigzag upwards. Now we see the Europahütte, which is located above the last trees. On the great terrace with a view of the Weisshorn and the Mattertal, we will satisfy our hungry stomachs. With a bit of luck, we might even see an ibex before heading back to Randa along the Domhüttenweg.

Please note: A head for heights is a prerequisite! In order to do the round trip, you must be free of giddiness and brave enough to cross the 494 meter long suspension bridge! Please also pack shoes with a good tread, some snacks, enough water, hiking poles, sun cream, sunglasses and also a rain jacket.

How to sign up

To register, please fill out the form below. Please note that your registration is binding. The places are limited to max. 10 ppl. After your registration you will soon receive a confirmation and a message from the organizer Nadine.

IMPORTANT: If you are unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know by July 22nd at the latest, so that we can give others from the waiting list the opportunity to come along. Participants who cancel on shorter notice will be excluded from future events. We strive to offer our events free of charge and invest a lot of our free time in these events (we are all volunteers), but unfortunately we have experienced many no-shows/no-responses or super last-minute cancellations in recent years, which is demotivating for the organizers. Therefore, we had to establish this rule.

Disclaimer / please note

The hike is free of charge, but our organizers are always happy to receive a small tip via TWINT for their volunteer work (organizing a hike takes about three days of effort). The number will be announced after registration. Food and drinks are not included in our hikes and must be brought by yourself. Participation is at your own risk and responsibility, as we are only a volunteer community of friends and not an official tour provider. You are therefore asked to agree to a disclaimer below when registering. You can also find more info in our FAQ.
