Route: Sulwald – Sulsseeli – Lobhornhütte – Grütschalp
4.5 hours plus breaks, 10km, approx. 580m elevation gain / 610m elevation loss
Level: medium
Organized by: Pascale (speaks DE, ENG, FR)
About the hike
We meet at Lauterbrunnen station at 09.26 am, where we take the postauto to Isenfluh at 09.35 am. From there we take a small gondola (space for 8 people or a cow) to Sulwald, where our hike through the village begins. We climb up the steep path through the shady forest, occasionally catching glimpses of the surrounding mountain landscape. After around an hour, we reach the Sulsbach stream, along which we continue our ascent. After the Sulsalp, it’s not far to our highest point, the Sulsseeli!
Here we look for a nice spot to rest, have lunch and maybe a swim. Afterwards we have the opportunity to make a short loop to the Lobhornhütte which has spectacular view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau!
Strengthened, we make our way back towards the deserted Soustal valley, from where we can see the Schilthorn (Piz Gloria) in the distance. From there, the path winds up and down through the forest towards Grütschalp. There we take the gondola back to Lauterbrunnen.
Good to know
The climb at the beginning is particularly tough: the path is relatively short, but very steep with lots of steps. It helps if you are in good physical condition and have already done a few hikes this year.
The way back through the forest is narrow in places and somewhat exposed on one side, so hiking poles can be helpful.

How to register
To register, please fill out the form below. Please note that your registration is binding. Places are limited to a maximum of 10 – “first come, first served” 😉 After registering, you will receive confirmation and a message from the organizer shortly.
IMPORTANT: If you are unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know by July 27th at the latest so that we can give others on the waiting list the opportunity to join. Participants who cancel at short notice will be excluded from future events. We strive to offer our events free of charge and invest a lot of our free time in these events (we all work on a voluntary basis), but unfortunately we have experienced many no-shows/no-replies or last-minute cancellations in recent years, which is demotivating for the organizers. Therefore, we had to establish this rule.
Disclaimer / Please note
The hike is free of charge, but our organizers always appreciate a small tip via TWINT for their volunteer work (organizing and conducting a hike takes about three days of effort). The number will be announced after registration, and you will be invited to join a WhatsApp group. Food and drinks are not included in our hikes and must be brought along by participants. Participation is at your own risk and responsibility, as we are only a volunteer community of friends and not an official tour operator. You will therefore be asked to confirm a disclaimer below. You can find more information in our FAQ.
The hike is currently fully booked. However, you are welcome to register below and we will put you on the waiting list and let you know as soon as a place becomes available!
