Sunniggrat via Arnisee: June 6th

Route: Arnisee – Sunniggrat – Heitersbüel – Arnisee
4.5 hours plus breaks (= ca. 5.5hours), 9.6 km, 800 m ascent and 800 m descent. Difficulty: Moderate.

Organized by: Julia (speaks ENG, DE)

About the hike

We start at the Intschi Seilbahn public transit stop, from where we first take the gondola up to Lake Arnisee. From there, we walk along the lake at first, then ascend through the forest in the shade until we reach a small wetland area above the tree line. From there, we soon catch sight of the Sunniggrat Hut, where we can take our lunch break. Shortly after, we make our way over easy stone block terrain to the summit cross, where we enjoy the view. Then we follow the slope to the next viewpoint before descending through lush meadows and past a small waterfall back toward Lake Arni. From there, depending on your preference, you can linger by the lake a bit longer (note: swimming is prohibited!), extend the hike to the other gondola, or take the gondola back down to the valley and the starting point.

Information on difficulty

This hike is NOT suitable for beginners. You must be sure-footed and have a head for heights. We’ll be hiking at a moderately brisk pace, so you should be able to cover about 300 meters of elevation gain in an hour (if you can hike up Uetliberg in an hour, for example, you’re in good shape 🙂). This shouldn’t be your first or second hike of the season.

Information on how to get there

🚉 Starting point: Intschi, cable car (valley station)

💵 The cable car costs CHF 16 (round trip).

How to register

To register, please fill out the form below. Please note that your registration is binding. Places are limited to a maximum of 10 – “first come, first served” 😉 After registering, you will receive confirmation and a message from the organizer shortly.

IMPORTANT: If you are unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know by June 3rd at latest so that we can give others on the waiting list the opportunity to join. Furthermore we need to reserve the cable car. Participants who cancel at short notice will be excluded from future events. We strive to offer our events free of charge and invest a lot of our free time in these events (we all work on a voluntary basis), but unfortunately we have experienced many no-shows/no-replies or last-minute cancellations in recent years, which is demotivating for the organizers. Therefore, we had to establish this rule.

Disclaimer / Please note

The hike is free of charge, but our organizers always appreciate a small tip via TWINT for their volunteer work (organizing and conducting a hike takes about three days of effort). The number will be announced after registration, and you will be invited to join a WhatsApp group. Food and drinks are not included in our hikes and must be brought along by participants. Participation is at your own risk and responsibility, as we are only a volunteer community of friends and not an official tour operator. You will therefore be asked to confirm a disclaimer below. You can find more information in our FAQ.
