About the hike

Who wouldn’t want to go for a hike in snowy landscapes? But without snowshoes, you usually have no chance of beating the snow.

That’s why today we’re going on a beginner-friendly snowshoe hike through the beautiful foothills of the Alps, more precisely to UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch.

We start at Marbachegg Talstation and take the gondola from there to Bergstation. From there, we first hike leisurely downhill towards Wittenfähren, then turn off towards Unter Lochsitli, where we can take a break.

From there, it’s a leisurely 300 m uphill to the lakes of Marbachegg, where we make a loop towards Gassenegg and Buchwald back to Marbachegg Bergstation.

After the hike we can have a short (and not complete) introduction to avalanche rescue, if desired. I will show you how to use the avalanche transceiver correctly and how to find and dig out a buried person.

Please note

The following equipment is mandatory for the snowshoe tour and must be organized by yourself:

– Snowshoes in the correct size

– sturdy hiking boots

– Poles (for balance)

Please understand, that we cannot take anyone with us who does not have this equipment before the start of the tour. Please don‘t wear trail running shoes, they will not be sufficient enough.

For those who want to take part in the introduction to avalanche rescue, you will also need

– Avalanche transceiver

– Avalanche shovel

– Probe

Snowshoes can be rented directly at the Marbachegg station or at the Marbachegg ski school. Please call in advance and arrange a reservation.

How to sign up

To register, please complete the form below. Please note that your registration is binding. Places are limited to a maximum of 10 – “first come first serve” 😉 After your registration you will receive a confirmation and a message from the organiser Julia as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: If you are unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know by 22 January at the latest so that we can give others on the waiting list the opportunity to come along. Participants who cancel at short notice will be excluded from future events. We strive to offer our events free of charge and invest a lot of our free time in these events (we all work on a voluntary basis), but have unfortunately experienced many no-shows/no-answers or super last-minute cancellations in recent years, which is demotivating for the organisers. That’s why we had to establish this rule.

Liability disclaimer / Please note

The hike is free of charge, but our organisers are always happy to receive a small tip via TWINT for their voluntary work (it takes about three days to organise and run a hike). The number will be announced after registration and you will be invited to a Whatsapp group. Food and drink are not included in our hikes and you must bring your own. Participation is at your own risk and responsibility, as we are only a volunteer community of friends and not an official tour operator. You will therefore be asked to confirm a disclaimer below. You can also find more information in our FAQ.

The hike is currently fully booked. You can still register below, we will be happy to put you on the waiting list and let you know when a place becomes available!
